Our Team

Our customers expect and deserve the best. That is why all employees have been carefully selected to provide knowledgeable, professional and courteous service. Our more than 40 skilled employees also take exceptional pride in their work, dedicating themselves to provide quality, efficient service on every call. For these reasons, we’ve always had a steady stream of repeat customers.

Our Founding: A Man, His Bicycle & Drain Snake

Let’s take a short trip back in time to 1930. Our founder, William Groves, began the company with just a drain snake on his shoulder, riding a bicycle through Hamilton’s streets and visiting various homes that were experiencing backed up sewers.

In 1933 his son W. L. Groves joined the business and together they expanded the services and work performed by the company. His son R. J. Groves started learning the business in 1970 and invested in new technologies and ideas to better serve our customers. These initiatives allowed Wm. Groves Ltd. to fulfill all our customers’ needs — an attribute that still carries on to this day.

The fourth generation has now been involved in Wm. Groves Ltd. since 2000. R. J.'s children Will and Jennifer Groves are equally appreciative and excited to fill their predecessor's shoes and uphold their values moving forward into the future.

Service, Integrity & Honesty

We provide 24-hour emergency service. We are not satisfied until our customer's job is performed correctly and in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. Our company believes in doing it right the first time. We have highly skilled, knowledgeable, courteous and experienced employees who take pride in their work. Will and Jennifer Groves believe that service, integrity, and honesty are the backbone of their company's philosophy and one which will continue to make them one of Hamilton's best-known and respected contracting firms.

Putting Health and Safety First

Health and Safety Policy Statement

Our Goal: “No One Gets Hurt”

The Management of Wm. Groves Ltd. is committed to the health and safety of its workers and for all who are involved in our projects. Protection of workers from injury or occupational disease is a major continuing objective. We are committed to continuing improvement toward an accident-free workplace through effective administration, education and training. All supervisors and workers must be dedicated to the continuing objectives of eliminating the “near misses” which will greatly reduce the risk of injuries.

Our philosophy is that the well-being of our company and clients is dependent on the health and safety or our workforce. The Stakeholders and Officers of this corporation promise that every precaution reasonable in all circumstances will be taken for the protection of all workers. The company will not condone shortcuts in safety. The welfare of the individual is our greatest concern.

Supervisors will be responsible for the health and safety of workers under their supervision. Supervisors are responsible to ensure that machinery and equipment required for use by each worker are safe and that each worker works in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures for each piece of equipment. Workers must receive adequate training in their specific work tasks to protect their health and safety.

All supervisors, employees and subcontractors must protect their own and fellow workers’ health and safety by working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all applicable regulations and safe work practices and procedures established by our company. We are a member of the Hamilton Halton Construction Safety Group to improve safety in the workplace.

We recognize that a safe work environment can be established and sustained only through a united effort by all workers and subcontractors and that the assistance of each person is required. Your attitude and cooperation in promoting accident prevention will assist in achieving our goal: “no one gets hurt” and make our company the best place to work, one where employees share in corporate growth and success.

Everyone from the President to new workers have the responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. We want to work together to prevent incidents from creating unwanted losses and personal injuries or illnesses.

We have been a proud member of the Regional Construction Safety Group for Hamilton-Halton, Toronto and Niagara from 2015-2019. In 2020, the structure within the Province of Ontario for safety groups changed and they are being replaced by the WSIB Health & Safety Excellence Program that has been designed in coordination with an advisory committee with representatives from the WSIB, Ministry of Labour Prevention Office, and service delivery providers. Wm. Groves Ltd. believes that by participating in this program we will be amongst other construction companies that uphold similar standards, we will be able to share and develop methods to successfully reduce the risk of hazards in the workplace, and it will continue to show our customers that we are serious and committed to performing our work safely.

Wm. Groves Ltd. has received several recognition awards for “Zero Frequency Rate” from different organizations including the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (previously CSA), and Ontario Water and Sewer Association as well as the Hamilton and District Heavy Construction Association (HAND) and Hamilton Halton Construction Association (HHCA).

We continue our commitment of ongoing improvement with our safety program to achieve “Zero Harm” to workers, our community and the environment. You may follow this link to read and print our complete 2020 Health and Safety Policy Statement.
